Summary: Great product 2010-03-06
Comment: Of all the fry cookers offered, this one is the best in my opinion. Have had other Waring Pro products to date and keep buying due to their quality. One crazy design issue for me. This model DF250B a redesign from the previous D200 (I think) does not have an on/off switch. You must unplug the unit after use ??? I called Waring Pro to verify this and they confirmed it. I wired it to a power strip and just turn it off there. Great product other than that unusual design issue. Probably the best offered for the price, not to mention the Waring Pro quality. Hopefully the next redesign will have an on/off switch.

Summary: Great Fryer, But a Bit Slow with the Recovery Time!! 2010-02-17
Comment: The Waring Pro Df-2508 is a solid deep fryer with just one shortcoming;
The recovery time seems a bit slow (it took several minutes for the ready light to come on) after I lowered the basket into the hot oil to cook French fries. In spite of this however, it DID manage to keep the oil very hot and the fies were done in only a few minutes. Also, the power cord is too short. But I still like it!!!
The enameled steel container hold a hefty 1-gallon capacity of of oil, and the basket holds about 2lbs of food. It has a detachable handle with a stay-cool grip. The lid has a viewing window and a grease / condensation filter.
The cabinet and lid are of brushed stainless steel. All parts except control panel and cabinet are immersible for easy cleaning! Has Standby & Ready lights.
Frying the fries was really no problem. Just the Recovery time that took a bit longer that I had expected it to come back. Has built-in safety features, such as a 2-ft break-away power cord, automatic thermal protection for the heater if it gets overheated and a safety switch that prevents the control panel from operating until and unless it is properly mounted. There's also a Reset button that must be activated if the heater gets to hot and shuts down.
All in all, only two shortcomings, but the unit operates pretty normally. It cooks food reasonably good though!

Summary: So Far So Good 2010-02-10
Comment: I bought this fryer to replace two other fryers of a different brand that had quit working at an early age. We have used this one half a dozen times already and everything has been perfect.The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that you have to be careful of what you set it on because it gets extremely hot on the bottom. I cook with mine on the stovetop so it really isn't a problem. Purchasing through Amazon was very good, no problems at all.Waring Pro DF250B 1800-Watt Deep Fryer, Brushed Stainless

Summary: Comfort food bliss 2010-02-08
Comment: This is a nice, heavy duty deep fryer. The well-fitting, heavy lid minimizes the kitchen mess and the long and wide basket provides ample surface area for making lots of French fries. The only downside to its size is that it does require quite a bit of oil, so expect to shell out a little extra (maybe $20) to get the appliance in working order. And it does take up some counter space, since it is not feasible to store this elsewhere between uses, even after removing the oil.
I must say that after purchasing this item, I will never again endure the hazards of a cheap deep fryer. It is so much safer and easier to use than our old cheapo one that we have finally begun to explore the highly satisfying, if somewhat unhealthy, world of deep frying, making egg rolls, etc. Everything turns out crispy and delicious.
In sum, the appliance is definitely well worth the price and will very likely broaden your deep-frying horizon.

Summary: Bad quality control 2010-02-05
Comment: I had to return it because it didn't power on. On close inspection, it appears that there is a cheap little plastic pin that pokes into a small hole to enable it to turn on. Well the pin was broken off and missing on arrival, so it never worked. It no doubt would have broken off at some point in the near future in any case.
Waring also warns in big letters that solid oils like lard or shortening cannot be used in their fryer. This alone should be a good reason not to buy it. The best fries are made with solid oil. A friend has a T-Fal that carries no such warning, and works very well.
This was my second attempt at a Waring brand deep fryer. I'm convinced now that they are cheap garbage. The first one was a different design that had a push button to open it -- except it didn't work and I had to bang on the fryer to get it to open, which was very dangerous as the hot oil inside splashed around. Also the basket would not lower into the oil and then would suddenly drop in, splashing into the hot oil. This particular model does not have those problems because it is all manual, which is why I tried it, but it has it's own quality problems.
