It is a shallower fryer than some. Deep enough to handle everything but large game hens or larger food. Being shallow and wide gives it a significant advantage. It creates a larger surface area within the basket for food to cook. This allows for more items to be cooked at once when you need a little space between each item!
Immersion heaters do use a bit more oil volume but that added volume also leads to a more stable cooking temperature over time. As a result, the fryer seems to hold temperature well and cycles back to temperature relatively quickly. 1800 watts is a lot of heating power. The fryer will draw around 15 amps of current! If you have an older house, you will need to plug it into a circuit that has nothing else connected to it. If you need to run power from somewhere else in your house -- I prefer to fry outdoors -- you will need a heavy duty extension cord. Look for a cord of...Read more 19 of 19 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Waring DF250 1800-Watt 2-1/5-Pound-Capacity Deep Fryer, Brushed Stainless (Kitchen) I just purchased mine today and couldn't wait to fry my first chicken in it. After unpackaging everything, I realized that the folks who complained about all the cleaning have a point. There are lots of parts to clean. Still, I'd rather clean the fryer than clean grease that's been splattered all over my kitchen, The deep fryer managed to contain all those splatters quite nicely, so on balance I'd say the tradeoff between messy kitchen or messy appliance works in favor of the fryer. The other complaint I saw related to the depth of the oil relative to the level of the food. That complaint has a bit more traction in my view. I poured oil into the fryer to the maximum fill line, but the two breast halves were never fully submerged. The small portion of the breast that wasn't submerged in the oil came out white--not browned at all. That probably won't affect the taste much, but the eye appeal is definitely affected. Maybe I should have turned the breast...Read more 16 of 16 people found the following review helpful: By OregonBay (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Waring DF250 1800-Watt 2-1/5-Pound-Capacity Deep Fryer, Brushed Stainless (Kitchen) This fryer is great, it's the next best thing to installing a commercial deep fryer, with significant cost savings.
We've all used the fry babys, daddys, and grandaddies of the frying world and as you know those devices will do the job, but often the results are not as expected, due to no temperature settings, and other limited features. Of course you can buy many low priced fryers on the market that have some of the features of this device, I've had one or two of those as well, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. For me I was ready to take the next step up and achieve professional results at home, and in that - this unit does not disappoint, everything I've cooked in it has turned out as expected. PROS: + The heating element & diffuser keep the oil at the correct temperature, there is VERY LITTLE recovery time, even when putting frozen foods into it (also the 1800 watts probably helps with this). + The...Read more |
