It is easy to break down and dishwasher safe. I have had Rival products before and thought this would be just as great. I WAS WRONG.
The filter in the top is a joke. It gets soaked with steam and filters nothing. The fryer basically only heated thoroughly if you put the heat setting as high as it would go. The timer quit working and sometimes the basket arm wouldn't go down. Basically inconveinances that I could work with because it was affordable and dishwasher safe. HOWEVER, it completely quit working in a month! I thought I had put the detachable power cord on wrong, but no. It simply had lost connection. I contact Rival who sent me a replacement saying that with the removable/dishwasher safe feature, this is a problem. The replacement lost all power in two weeks. I gave up. Get the Presto dual basket instead (still dishwasher safe). We've had it for 2 years and LOVE IT!!!! The instructions on the fries want a higher temp than 375, the max of this and most fryers, but cooking at max 375 for 6 min works just fine. The only two problems I have with it are the smell and after a few times taking the lid off to clean it, the lid stopped snapping back into place. It goes back on, but steam comes out all sides and is loose when opening. One side snaps in so I haven't had it fall off, but the other side seems to just have worn out.
The smell there doesn't seem to be anything to do about. Even the expensive ones it seems from the reviews that the only way it wont smell up the house is cook outside or near a window and use a fan. Due to lack of cleaning, the old one we have is fairly dirty and we decided to get a different deep fryer. After reading reviews on a bunch of them, I decided to just get the exact same one.
