Summary: Great Fryer! 2010-03-07
Comment: I purchased this fryer Presto 05466 ProFry Stainless-Steel Dual-Basket Immersion-Element 12-Cup Deep Fryer for my family of three and we're having a great time using it. So far we've just used it for chicken, french-fries, and doughnuts (no, not at the same time) and it's very quick and easy to use. We're really looking forward to frying shrimp and fish. If you're using it in a small home or apartment be sure to have plenty of ventilation. And please, be careful using it around children. What I've found particularly helpful is the cover that allows you to immerse the food that's in the baskets without danger of splattering hot oil.

Summary: Second deep fryer I have owned 2010-03-05
Comment: I had a single basket Delonghi that was a dual zone and cooked better but the electronics went twice on the unit costing $80 each time. I liked the way this dual basket looked so I gave it a try. It cooks pretty decent but not as good! One good thing is the simple controls which haven't failed.

Summary: DON'T LIKE IT!! 2010-03-03
Comment: I "GAVE THIS ITEM AWAY" TO A CHURCH FOR THEIR
EVENTS. IT JUST COSTS TOOO MUCH TO "FILL IT" WITH
NEW OIL!! IT TAKES A "HUGE JUG" OF OIL EST. $14 TO FILL!!!
PLUS...IF YOU SAVE THE OLD OIL IN YOUR REFRIG., THE FOOD
DOES NOT TASTE AS GOOD WHEN YOU USE FRESH OIL.
IT'S JUST TOOOO EXPENSIVE TO USE FOR "HOME USE"...ALSO, THE
OIL TOOK "FOREVER"....OVER 30-40 MIN'S. TO "HEAT UP" NOT HOT
ENOUGH TO FRY FOODS. i WAS "VERY DISAPPOINTED" IN THIS PRODUCT!!
I'M JUST SORRY THAT I WAITED TOO LONG TO USE IT AGAIN...PAST 30 DAYS AND
I COULDN'T RETURN IT FOR A REFUND!! I LOST OVER $70!!
MAYBE...THE CHURCH CAN FIND A USE FOR IT.

Summary: I really wanted to like this thing. 2010-02-04
Comment: Shelley Ryan's negative review of this fryer really irked me, so I ordered one to test so that I could write a stellar review and really stick it to her. Well guess what. She stuck it to ME.

I've been wanting a standalone fryer for a while. Heating oil in a crockpot with a digital thermometer attached to the side just scared me. I'd get nervous at the huge quantity of scathing oil sitting precariously atop my electric stove. One bump, that's all it would take and KABLAMMY - 70 skin grafts. I wanted something neat, something self-contained. Something I could put in the corner and break out when I wanted to fry something safely. By all appearances this looked like an attractive package. Not very expensive, stainless steel, two baskets... very appealing, really. So I pulled the trigger. And yeah, I'm returning it.

HEED THESE WORDS. It doesn't heat the oil to proper temperatures! I have a digital thermometer I trust implicitly, and I immersed it into the oil at full crank - dial to 375 degrees. And I left it alone for an hour. That's right, I wanted to get that oil as hot as it could possibly get. It didn't crack 350. I cut up some yukon golds (all that was on hand) and set myself to making some french fries. Now, keep in mind I'm using room temperature fries. The temperature of the oil was 345 (even though the dial was set to 375) and I lowered the basket into the oil. The temperature immediately plummeted to 298. Now, I know the secret to good fries is to cook them for a few minutes at 320, remove them, allow them to cool, and then cook them again at 375 for a few minutes. That's how you get crunchy fries that are soft in the middle. Only this thing just wasn't going to cooperate with my intentions.

I read the good reviews. I read the bad reviews. I felt that the overwhelming positive feedback was enough to silence the haters. And I'll be thinking of all of them as I drop this box off at UPS. Want McDonalds fries? Go to McDonalds.

Comment: I shopped and critiqued this item for three months before I made the decision to purchase.
I have fried Crappie / White River Cat / Buffalo / squirrels / Coon and Chicken to perfection
and total satisfaction. The cooking temperature was right on. I would definately recommend this fryer.
