The looks are great and it's fantastic for cleaning. The only problem is the heating element doesn't seem to be up to the design levels of the rest of the thing. The last one went at the end of '09 and to be fair to Kalorik, they sent out a completely new one as a replacement (only wanting the heating element sent back) but the replacement died last week. That might be OK for a $20 "disposable" fryer from Wally world but for a fryer at this price, that's not really acceptable (we're not even heavy users). Also on this replacement one, the plastic "control panel" melted at the top. Not sure if that's electrical or from steam or fat from the bowl but it looks ugly.
I'll put it this way though, if Kalorik brought out an "upgraded" model at $50 more, I'd buy that. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Scott Froschauer (Sun Valley, CA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kalorik FT-17444 1500-Watt 2-Quart Glass-Bowl Deep Fryer (Kitchen) I've had several deep friers and got this one on sale through Haute-Look.
It looks amazing. People ask me about it when it's just sitting there. I LOVE being able to see how everything is cooking without taking the lid off. I saw a complaint about the lid but the lid has yet to bother me. It has a steel mesh over the holes in it that prevents any splatter. I like how it works. I get less splatter from it than I got from my last frier. I use the built in strainer just as a last resort to get any strays, I prefer using a spider skimmer for the majority of the removal. If there is one part that I am less than thrilled with it is the break-away magnetic power cord. It prevents the frier getting pulled over by someone getting caught on the cord, but mine is a little delicate, I have to be a little careful about how the cord lays to ensure that the magnets stay connected. 1 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Kalorik FT-17444 1500-Watt 2-Quart Glass-Bowl Deep Fryer (Kitchen) I looked at this item closely before buying it and I liked the design. When I got it, I quickly learned that looks were very deceiving. The cover is not attached so you have to lift it off and putting it on. It means that your arms will end up getting hit with hot oil. There really is no filter in the cover either so the steam is extra-oily. I will end up buying a new one and having an expensive mixing bowl. |
