I bought one of these pans for myself and I love it so I bought one for my daughter. I enjoy experimenting with this pan. I mostly cook fat-free and have not tried frying chicken in it. It actually steams food and keeps it moist. I also use the lid to bake cornbread and biscuits in the oven. It is fairly heavy but keeps food warm for a long time. After using it I wash it with water and wipe it with cooking oil on a paper towel. It still looks new. It will be handy to use while camping also.

My fiance and I bought this pan a couple years ago. We love it! It has become our "go to" pan.
We occasionally use it like a frying pan (although it is tough to get a spatula in). We make soups in it. We braise with it. We put it in the oven. It's really heavily used, and it's very well-seasoned now. It's great because we'll have it forever, basically. Just make sure that you know how to care for it so that you don't lose the seasoning every time you wash it. There's some great information all over the internet to show you how to care for cast iron pans, so do some research. Enjoy!
